Heat-based hairstyling appliances--including blow dryers, flat irons, curling irons and crimpers--can leave your hair dry, brittle and damaged. Some companies make heat protection and repair products that promise to reverse the damage caused by styling appliances, but they can be costly. You can save money--and your hair health--with items found in your kitchen. These homemade styling products are an affordable, all-natural alternative to beauty store brands.
Peel, deseed and cut an avocado in half. Then, cut off one-third of one-half of your avocado, and use a fork to mash it in a bowl.
Heat 1/2 cup of water to a simmer on the stove, and add the mashed avocado. Continue to simmer the liquid, and stir in the avocado until it is well dissolved. You should have a thin liquid at the end. Put the mixture through a strainer to remove any large lumps.
Fold 28.4gr of shea butter into the warm avocado liquid, and stir until well mixed. Let the mixture cool, and pour the liquid into a clean, plastic spray bottle. Add a few drops of lemon juice or concentrate to preserve the spray. Spray on to your hair before blow drying and styling. Store the protectant in your refrigerator for up to seven days.
Open a can or bottle of beer, and leave it to sit on your kitchen counter for about one day. This will remove all the carbonation from the beer.
Fold 28.4gr of shea butter into the room temperature beer. Stir with a fork until the butter melts; this should happen quickly since shea butter melts at body temperature.
Smell the mixture to be sure the beer odour has been masked by the shea butter. If not, add 7.09gr portions of shea butter until you reach a desirable scent.
Pour the liquid into a clean, plastic spray bottle, and spray on to hair as needed before styling. Be sure to store in a cool dry place, and discard if not entirely used within two weeks.
Beers that are light in colour, organic or made from natural spring water are best, as they will produce less odour.
