Superhero capes can be simple to find in children's sizes -- just visit the dress-up department of any toy store. Finding one for adults, however, may prove more difficult. If you have basic sewing skills, you can make superhero capes for adults. Whether it's part of a Halloween costume or you just want to show someone that they are a hero in your life, sewing a superhero cape is a simple task. Whip one up in an afternoon and you'll be tempted to make more for all of the other adults in your life.
Measure the width between the adult's shoulders; call this measurement A. Measure from the shoulder to the ankle; call this measurement B.
Cut a piece of fleece fabric that is B inches long and two times A inches wide. The fleece fabric will not fray, so it doesn't require hemming.
Fold over the top edge of the fabric by 1.5 inches. Sew a straight line along the edge of the fabric to create a channel going across the top edge of the cape. Sew another straight line 1/2 inch in from the fold.
Put a safety pin on one end of a two-yard length of grosgrain ribbon that is one-inch wide. Thread the ribbon through the channel you made in the top of the cape. Pull on the ends of the ribbon to centre it through the cape, gathering the cape fabric across the ribbon. Sew a small seam on either side of the channel to close it and secure the ribbon in place.
Cut a large superhero symbol out of felt fabrics. You may choose the person's name framed by a large golden star or some other type of embellishment. Sew these onto the centre of the cape and tie it on.
