When a friend or family member is moving away, throw a party to send him off in style. Farewell parties are also common for someone who is leaving a job and heading off to another office. When you are planning a party to say goodbye to someone, create a cake that fits the theme of the party. Whether or not you are an experienced baker, you can make a whimsical farewell cake that will mean a lot to the person you are seeing off.

  1. 1

Place a round cake on the centre of a large cake platter.

  2. 2

Dye a can of white frosting so that it looks like skin colour. Use brown food colouring to dye the frosting to a pale off-white or all the way to dark brown, depending on your preference. A little bit of food colouring goes a long way, so begin by dropping one drop of food colouring into the can of frosting. Stir it until it evenly tints the frosting. Continue dropping one drop at a time into the frosting until you have reached the colour you want.

  3. 3

Frost the cake with the icing using a frosting knife. Place a mound of frosting on the centre of the cake and begin smoothing it over the top of the cake with the knife. Gently push the frosting over the sides of the cake and smooth it down. Add more frosting to the sides if you need it.

  4. 4

Decorate the cake so that it looks like a crying face. Use the tubes of coloured gel frosting to create eyes, a nose and a frowning mouth. Draw tears on the cake as well, so that it is clear that it is crying.

  5. 5

Dye another can of white frosting to another colour, such as red or blue.

  6. 6

Frost the cupcakes using the coloured dye.

  7. 7

Pipe a letter on each cupcake using the gel frosting tubes until they spell out "Goodbye John," or whatever the name is of the person you are bidding farewell.

  8. 8

Place the "goodbye" cupcakes above the crying face and the cupcakes that spell the person's name below the crying cake face.
