Changing the main domain on a HostGator server is free for the following types of accounts: Baby, Reseller, Hatchling and Business. As of March 2011, HostGator charges Dedicated and VPS accounts a service fee of £3. If the domain you want to change to a primary domain already exists on your HostGator server as an add-on domain, parked domain or sub-domain, HostGator requires domain removal before implementing the change. A pre-existing folder for the domain, however, can stay on the server. You can move the files in the folder to the public_html directory after the change.
