Kannel is an open-source WAP (wireless application protocol) gateway that exists as part of the industry standard WAP infrastructure. The Kannel gateway operates as an SMS gateway on GSM networks, which means that when you send an SMS message through a cell phone or mobile device, that message is transfer to the recipient through the Kannel WAP gateway by default. Therefore, the basic way to send an SMS with Kannel is to send one through a cell phone or mobile device operating on the GSM network.

Instructions

    Press the "Power" (or equivalent) button on the GSM phone or mobile device to turn it on.

    Press the "Menu" (or equivalent) button to open the main menu on the phone, then use the "Up/Down" navigation buttons to scroll through the menu to the "SMS Messaging" (or equivalent) option. Press the "Enter" (or equivalent) button to select it.

    Enter the recipient's phone number into the number entry box, then enter the SMS text into the message entry box. Press the "Send" (or equivalent) button to send the message to the recipient. The GSM network will use the Kannel WAP gateway to transmit the SMS message by default.
