The worst part of talking to a guy you like, or a new guy in your life, is breaking the ice. Before breaking the ice you may feel awkward, and your personality may feel contained within a block of ice. To break that cube of ice your personality is contained within, and become closer than ever, there are a few methods you can use with text messages. Using texts to break the ice is easy and can help you avoid embarrassing situations, because you have time to carefully think of things to say.

Skill level:

  1. 1

Send the guy an initial text message. This text message can be as simple as saying hello, or a smiley face. To type a smiley face simply use a colon and parentheses together.

  2. 2

Ease the texts into a conversation after he replies to you. Ask simple, lightweight questions about him such as his favourites, his day, or what he had for lunch.

  3. 3

Avoid serious and boring topics such as work and politics, which may cause conflict. Having conflict will make it much harder to break the ice and become closer, as arguments will cause tension.

  4. 4

Ask him fun questions. For example, inquire about where he would love to travel, pets, and his childhood.

  5. 5

Compliment him about something small. If he has a good sense of humour, handsome looks, or a nice shirt, let him know.
