Breaking open a fortune cookie at the end of a meal provides a touch of light entertainment that people of all ages can enjoy. Making homemade fortune cookies at home is an entertaining project, especially when you make the cookies for children. Keep the fortune cookie sayings simple when you make fortune cookies for kids. Cute little sayings that they will understand and appreciate will work best in kids' fortune cookies.

Draw rectangles onto brightly coloured paper. Make a 3 1/2-inch by 1/2-inch rectangle for each cookie you make.

Cut out the rectangles with scissors to make small slips of paper for the fortunes.

Think of fun and whimsical fortunes for the kids and write down your ideas on a sheet of paper. Some of the standard fortunes you may find in regular fortune cookies will also work well in kids' fortune cookies. For example, include fortunes like "Something exciting will soon happen," "This is a great time to make a new friend," "You can be anything you dream," "Work hard and you will pass that test" and "Someone awesome is reading this."

Write the best fortunes onto the slips of paper. Use a contrasting gel pen that shows up clearly on the coloured paper. Write one fortune one each slip of paper, printing the words large enough for children to read them easily.

Fold the fortune papers in half lengthwise. They are now ready to insert into the freshly baked fortune cookies.
