Watch straps are most commonly made out of leather, rubber or stainless steel, however they can be made out of other materials, providing they can securely hold the clock face around the wrist. A paracord, otherwise known as a 550 cord, is a durable piece of nylon rope used by paratroopers and the military. It is has a slight elasticity and a smooth finish, which makes it a suitable material for creating a braided watch strap.

  1. 1

Cut three pieces of paracord, each 8-inches long, using the scissors. Line them up, so that they all start and end at the same place.

  2. 2

Slide a paper clip onto the cords, roughly 1-inch below the top of the three strands. This will give you room to attach the cords to the clock face. Ensure that the cords are securely held in place by the paper clip.

  3. 3

Lay the paracords flat. Place the paperweight directly on top of the paper clip and paracords. Arrange the paracords, so that one cord lies to the left, one in the middle and one to the right.

  4. 4

Take the paracord on the right side and move it over the middle cord -- so that it sits in the middle of the three cords. Take the paracord on the left side and move it over the middle cord -- until it sits in the middle position. Repeat this braiding technique, until the entire length of paracord is braided. Secure the end of the braid by sliding another paper clip over the three cords.

  5. 5

Repeat steps 1 - 4 for the other-side of the watch strap.

  6. 6

Squeeze a drop of superglue onto the bottom of the braid, allowing it to dry naturally. Repeat with the other braid. Remove the bottom paper clips -- carefully sliding them from the paracord.

  7. 7

Remove the paper clip from the top of the braid; while holding the stands -- so that it does not unravel. Push the three loose strands above the braid through the loop on the side of the watch face. The stands can be secured with several knots, or by gluing the strands back onto the underside of the braid. Repeat with the other side.
