How to Make Castanets Crafts for Kids

Updated February 21, 2017

Help kids make castanets and they can form their own band. Making castanets is simple and fun, and they can be used to help celebrate Cinco de Mayo, or just to liven up a rainy afternoon. Kids respond to all types of music and they will really enjoy having their own instrument to play and sing along to music or make up their own songs.

Cut a strip of cardboard that will be the base for your castanets. The strip should be 2 inches wide and 7 inches long.

Lie the cardboard strip flat and glue a bottle cap with the open side down on each end of the cardboard strip.

Fold the strip so the top of the caps meet when they hit each other. This will make the clicking noise of the castanets.

Decorate the castanets as you desire with markers or stickers. Enjoy making music.
