Data security is an increasingly important consideration, particularly when sending confidential or sensitive information on e-mail. Once you've sent an e-mail, there's usually nothing to stop the recipients from forwarding the email to as many people as they want. One useful feature of the Lotus Notes e-mail and organiser software suite is that you can configure each e-mail message to prevent forwarding.

Instructions

  1. 1

Launch "Lotus Notes" by double-clicking the icon on your computer's desktop screen.

  2. 2

Click "New" and then "Message" in the top menu bar.

  3. 3

Compose an e-mail in the usual way. Enter the email addresses of the recipients in the "To" and "Cc" fields.

  4. 4

Click the "Delivery Options" tab above the email message.

  5. 5

Select "Prevent Copying" and click "OK."

  6. 6

Send the email message. The email is now protected so that recipients cannot forward it to other e-mail addresses.

Tips and warnings

  • Preventing e-mail forwarding in Lotus Notes also stops recipients from replying to the email with the message history, copying the message to the computer clipboard and printing the message.
