VLC Media Player is an open-source media player that is compatible with many formats of video including Flash video files and DVD files. VLC Media Player also supports the playback of a wide variety of audio files, including MP3, WMV and AAC files. The software has a built-in 10-band equaliser that allows you to fine-tune the audio output and control the high, mid and low (bass) frequencies. The equaliser has a number preset settings for many different types of music, and also allows you to custom tune the software.

Open the file that you would like to play in VLC by right-clicking on the file and selecting "Open With" and then "VLC." Alternately, you can click "File" and then "Open" from the VLC window.

Click the "Equalizer" button, located on the right-side of the volume fader. The equaliser button has an image of three faders on it.

Click "Enable" to enable the equaliser.

Locate the fader on the left side of the equaliser labelled "60," representing the 60 hertz frequency.

Drag the "60" fader down to lower the bass level of the output.
