BitDefender is an antivirus and firewall software that protects a computer from virus and spyware infection. BitDefender also blocks phishing sites and spam, and encrypts files on the hard drive. Deleting important software files or removing BitDefender-related registry information can prevent the application from working properly. Reinstalling BitDefender can restore any missing data. Before reinstalling BitDefender, you must first uninstall the application from the system.
Click "Start." Enter "programs" into the search field. Select "Add or remove programs" from the results.
Scroll to "BitDefender." Right-click the application and select "Uninstall" from the contextual menu.
Follow the onscreen directions to remove the application. Restart the computer following removal.
Download BitDefender from the official website (see the link in Resources), or insert the backup DVD into the disc drive.
Double-click the set-up file to run the installer. Read the license terms, select your installation options and follow the onscreen prompts to reinstall the application.
Restart the computer to complete the reinstallation. After booting into Windows, complete the registration wizard and the configuration wizard to finish setting up BitDefender.
If the Windows uninstaller doesn't remove BitDefender completely, download and run the BitDefender uninstaller (see the link in Resources).
