Emo culture, which emerged from a certain brand of sensitive, punk rock music, has created a certain type of guy. The typical emo guy is usually defined as a passionate music lover who wears his emotions on his sleeve. Though emo guys can be found in several places, there are certain settings where they are more likely to congregate. One of the best ways to meet an emo guy is to frequent these locations and take an interest in emo culture.

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

  1. 1

Go to an emo band's music concert. Start up a conversation with an emo-looking guy who you find intriguing. Talk to him about the band and ask him what other bands he enjoys. Give him your phone number, or ask him for his.

  2. 2

Frequent a local record shop, and scope the store for emo guys. Ask him about a record you're interested in or if he has any recommendations. See if he wants to meet up for a coffee or a drink.

  3. 3

Browse the various music players at a electronics store. According to "Cosmopolitan" magazine, "more men than ever are stopping by Apple boutiques" and the vibe there is very "conductive to man-meeting." If you spot an emo guy, ask him to help you work a certain gadget, compliment him on his concert T-shirt or find another way to break the ice.

  4. 4

Find interests that may cross over with emo culture. For example, though emo culture is different than skater culture, there can be some crossover between the two genres. Go to the skate park and look for guys who are skaters but are also emo. Another genre that may tie in to emo culture is the gamer culture. Go to a video game store and see if there are any emo guys you can start a conversation with.

Tips and warnings

  • Spot emo guys by recognising the emo look. This may involve tight-fitting or "skinny" jeans, concert T-shirts, beanies, studded belts, Converse shoes and possibly a jagged, dyed-black hairstyle.
