Breadboards are used to test preliminary electronic circuit designs. They are a series of bus strips that can be used to route voltages to electronic components. Breadboards connect components without soldering. The breadboards are designed to accept many common electronic components such as resistors, capacitors and integrated circuits, or ICs. They are an inexpensive way to test electronic designs before committing time and money to lay out and fabricate a printed circuit board. The breadboard usually has two bus strips that run along the top and bottom of the board. These power strips route the circuit voltage to the components. The board also has smaller, vertical bus strips used to connect the actual circuit components.

Instructions

  1. 1

    Grasp a resistor between your thumb and index finger. Bend the leads 90 degrees down. The bends should be approximately 1/2 inch apart.

    Place the breadboard in front of you. The top rows should be in a horizontal position.

  3. 3

    Insert one end of the resistor in one of the left-hand vertical bus strips.

  4. 4

    Place the other end of the resistor in another vertical bus strip. The resistor leads should be approximately 1/2 inch apart.

  5. 5

    Place the first lead of the second resistor in the same vertical bus strip that was used in Step 4.

  6. 6

    Place the other end of the resistor in another vertical bus strip. The resistor leads should be approximately 1/2 inch apart.
