Popups are a common form of advertisement found on many Web pages. Although not all popups are ad-orientated, you will generally come across more unwelcomed popups than welcomed ones. By default, your browser is configured to block automatic popups. This still allows popups that contain utilities such as those found with login boxes to work while blocking many ad-related popups. If this has been disabled or if you would like to increase the strength to stop all popups, you can configure the popup blocker in the browser options.

Click "Start." Type "Popups" in the Search box and press "Enter." This opens a properties window.
Click in the check box next to "Turn on Pop-up Blocker."
Click the "Settings" button in the Popup Blocker section.
Click in the "Blocking Level" drop-down menu. Click the "Low," "Medium" or "High" option to select the amount and type of popups you want to block. The default level set by Internet Explorer is "Medium." Use "High" if you want to block all popups.
Click the "Close" button at the bottom. This takes you back to the prior screen. Click "OK" to close.
