"Panzer General 2" was released for the PC in 1997 and then re-released on the digital distribution service "Good Old Games" in 2010. Good Old Games, which makes older games playable on newer operating systems, has eliminated most problems with running "Panzer General 2" on a newer operating system. However, you may encounter a crash when starting the game. Fortunately, there is a workaround to make the game playable.

Download the "June 2010 DirectX Runtime Package" (see Resources for link).
Double-click the downloaded DirectX program file to install the package. Once started, the package will automatically install the necessary DirectX fixes needed for the game.
Navigate to the "Panzer General 2" folder on your hard drive.
Right-click the "d3dx9_42.dll" file located within the folder. Click "Delete" from the pop-up menu. Do the same with the "ddraw.dll" file, also located in the "Panzer General 2" folder.
Double-click the "Panzer General 2" icon on your desktop. The game should now correctly run and not crash to the desktop.
