If you have a decorative pond in your yard, then you know how dingy and dull the pond can appear. One way to brighten up the pond is to add in nontoxic dye to stain the water bright colours of blue, green or even an eccentric colour like pink. Instead of buying expensive dyes from a garden supply store, you can save money by making your own homemade pond dye from basic food colouring.

Things you need

  • Food colouring

  • Bucket

  • Large spoon

Pour 2 tbsp of food colouring into a bucket.

Fill the bucket with 2 cups of water.

Mix the solution with a spoon to combine it completely, then pour the water into your pond.

Repeat this process until you have added in 2 tbsp of food colouring for each gallon of water you have in your pond.
