Vicks is a manufacturer of over-the-counter remedies for mild respiratory ailments. The company also produces cool and warm mist humidifiers into which you can add some of their over-the-counter medications. These humidifiers have specific compartments for adding the medications. Unless your humidifier manual specifically states that you can add Vicks to the machine, do not do so. You risk ruining the humidifier.

- Liquid Vicks
Fill the humidifier's water tank with cold water and screw on the tank cap. Check the power switch to make sure it is set to "Off." Plug in the humidifier.
Remove the medicine cup from the top of the cooling chamber, which is behind the water tank. Fill the medicine cup with liquid Vicks. Do not use the gel Vicks, which will clog the humidifier. Replace the medicine cup on top of the cooling chamber.
Turn the humidifier on by selecting either "Hi" or "Low." Turn the humidifier so the steam escapes directly into the room, away from windows or pieces of furniture.
Tips and warnings
- You can also add liquid Vicks to another manufacturer's hot steam vaporiser. Add 1 tbsp of the medication for each quart of water in the humidifier. Follow the humidifier's instructions for pouring the solution into the vaporiser.
