Switch the power on for the digital multimeter.
Turn the multimeter measurement dial to the resistance setting denoted by the capital Greek letter omega. Resistance measures the amount a wire limits the flow of electricity. The ohm is the unit of resistance.
Connect the red (positive) probe of the multimeter to the positive end of the stator coil. Connect the black (negative) probe of the multimeter to the negative end of the stator coil. Compare the resistance reading that appears on the multimeter screen to that given in the Honda 300 owner's manual. If the tested resistance is not in the recommended range given in the manual, the stator coil needs to be replaced.
