One of the iconic scenes in the first "Star Wars" film is the X-Wing Fighter attack. In it, a fleet of X-Wing fighters take on the TIE fighters of the Imperial forces. Many fans of the films have made their own versions of the costume worn by the fighter pilots. You can make your own X-Wing Fighter costume, but some parts may be hard to make on your own, so you may need to buy some of the parts from custom costume makers.

Slice the sides of your white muscle shirt, so that the top is joined by the shoulder straps of the shirt.
Pull the split shirt over your head, and measure to an inch below your sternum, Mark this point on your vest. Remove the shirt and extend the line horizontally to either side of the shirt.
Lay the shirt out on your work surface. Cut the bottom half of the shirt off.
Measure around your waist and cut a length of canvas strap to that length. Attach Velcro loop pieces to both ends.
Place this strap horizontally across the middle of the vest back panel. Glue or sew this into place.
Stretch a piece of aquarium tubing over the bottom of the shirt. Insert the rod into the tube to straighten the tubing. Move the tubing up. Cut the tube to the width of the shirt and glue the piece down.
Move up about 1/2-inch and repeat. Repeat until you cover the shirt. Leave the glue to dry for 10 minutes.
Place a sheet of white vinyl over the shirt, and tuck it between the plastic tubes. Glue the vinyl down and trim it to the size of the vest.
Glue Velcro hook pieces to the bottom left and right corners of the front of the vest. Leave the glue to dry overnight.
Measure around the top of your leg and then 6-inches below. Trace these measurements onto a piece of black vinyl to make a 6-inch wide strap. Measure a second strap 2-inches-by-18-inches. Cut out these strips.
Cut the 1-inch dowel into 5-inch lengths. You should have at least 10.
Paint all of these wooden rods silver. These will become the flares.
Lay the flares on the wide vinyl strip, placing them about 1/2-inch apart. Tuck the narrow vinyl strap between the flares so that it holds them in place.
Glue the narrow vinyl strip down. Glue a piece of Velcro to the 6-inch ends of the strip, on the underside of one end and the top side of the other. Leave the glue to dry overnight.
Cut a notch into the end of a PVC tube and fit it onto the cardboard box. Glue the PVC pipe down to the box.
Paint the box and tube dark grey.
Draw a 2-by-1-inch rocker switch. Measure 1-inch from the top of this square, and draw a line going off at a 45-degree angle. Draw a small round arc joining the 45-degree angle to the end of the square. Repeat on the other side. Make two of these "switches."
Measure and mark a 2-by-5-inch section of black plastic on your plastic sign. Cut out all of these pieces.
Fold the rocker switch into shape. Fold the two 45-degree sections up to 90-degree angles, to create a U-shape. Flip the piece over, and bend the 1-inch square at the bottom upward.
Glue the large rectangle vertically on the front-left half of the cardboard box. Glue the two metal plates on top of this piece. Glue the square on the top-right corner, and draw four coloured buttons on this piece. Glue the two rocker switches to the lower-right side.
Measure a neck strap which will fit around the back of the box and your neck, so that the box hangs above your sternum. Glue this strap onto the back of the box and leave the box to dry overnight.
Put the orange flight suit on. Put the climbing harness over your hips and legs.
Pull the vest over your head, so that the short part is on your front. Wrap the straps around to connect the Velcro to the front.
Pull the chest box over your head. Tuck the hose into the back of the vest.
Wrap the flare holster around your leg and Velcro it into place.
Pull the boots and gloves on, and put the helmet on your head.
