How to Reset a Frigidaire Refrigerator Defrost Timer

Updated February 21, 2017

The frigidaire corporation, which was founded in 1916 in the state of Indiana, developed the first-ever self-contained refrigerator. Frigidaire also manufactures air conditioning units, ranges, microwaves, dryers, dehumidifiers and clothes washers. In frigidaire refrigerators as well as other manufacturer's models, the defrost timer is the device that regulates the cooling mechanisms and keeps the unit's components from freezing up. To adjust a frigidaire defrost timer, follow a few simple steps.

Locate the defrost timer in your frigidaire refrigerator. The timer will be on the back or the bottom of your model. Remove the back or bottom panel using a Phillips screwdriver to expose the defrost timer.

Turn the notch located on the face of the defrost timer counterclockwise until it is turned completely. Do not apply more pressure when the notch stops turning, to avoid breakage. The frigidaire refrigerator will shut off shorty once the timer is completely turned off.

Listen for the fan motor to stop turning; this means the timer is off and is resetting. Wait a few minutes, then replace the panel that concealed the defrost timer. Allow 20 to 30 minutes to pass for the defrost timer to resume working.
