Asterix comics ("The Adventures of Asterix" in full) is a series of French comic books written by René Goscinny and illustrated by Albert Uderzo. The comic is set in ancient Gaul during Roman times, and the story revolves around the titular character, Asterix, and his village's attempts to resist Roman occupation. The Asterix comics are hugely popular, and retain a large fan base today, many of whom have digitised parts of the comics and put them online. Although you cannot read all of the Asterix books online because of copyright issues, you can easily find excepts to enjoy.

Skill level:

  1. 1

Know which Asterix book you would like to read before beginning an Internet search. If you are looking for a specific excerpt, find out which book it occurs on the official Asterix website. Asterix is an extensive comic series, composed of 34 books as of 2009, and it can be difficult to find a specific portion.

  2. 2

Navigate to an Asterix fan page, such as Asterix NZ. Alternatively, search for "Asterix" on a comic fan site such as Comic Junkies or Global Comics.

  3. 3

Navigate to the section of the website labelled "The Books" or "Book Excerpts." Look for the book you would like to read within the website's offered selection.

  4. 4

Click on the desired Asterix book you would like to read, and follow the instructions given on the website for reading it. Most websites offer image files of the individual pages that can be opened in a browser, although some require you to download the pages as a .pdf file. You can open .pdf files using a free reader, such as Adobe Acrobat.

  5. 5

Use Amazon's "Look Inside" feature to read excerpts of the Asterix books. Search for the desired book on Amazon, then click on the cover to get access to the first few pages of any Asterix book that has the option.
