Candy cane balloons are a large ornament, which can brighten a party. There are several methods for making a candy cane balloon which vary in difficulty. This project can be made by just about anyone. Using LED Christmas lights along the middle of the candy cane decoration will allow you to light up all the attached balloons. Use LED Christmas lights instead of ordinary Christmas lights because LED lights create less heat and will not pop your balloons.

Instructions

  1. 1

Untwist a wire coat hanger using a pair of pliers. Insert the wire into one end of the pool noodle until the entire wire is inserted. Bend this end of the pool noodle to be the shape of a candy cane top.

  2. 2

Attach the bottom of the candy cane to a brick or another heavy object using duct tape. Place a length of duct tape on each side of the base of the candy cane, so you have four pieces of duct tape. Wrap the other ends of the duct tape around the brick, then wrap duct tape around the base of the candy cane and the brick.

  3. 3

Wrap your candy cane with a strand of white LED Christmas lights. Use drawing pins to hold the lights in place. Be careful while you are attaching your drawing pins that you do not pierce the strand of lights. Do not plug in the lights while attaching balloons.

  4. 4

Blow up your red and white balloons. Place a white balloon at the base of the candy cane, and attach it by placing a thumb tack through the blow ring and into the foam noodle. Place a red balloon to the right of the white balloon, pressed closely beside it and fasten with a thumb tack.

  5. 5

Attach your next white balloon above and slightly to the right of the first white balloon. Attach your next red balloon above the first red balloon and slightly to the right. Position your balloons snugly against one another as you are attaching them.

  6. 6

Attach your next white balloon above and slightly to the right of the second white balloon. Attach your next red balloon above and slightly to the right of the second red balloon.

  7. 7

Attach three red balloons to the foam, starting at the base of the candy cane, and place each red balloon snugly against the corresponding three white balloons.

  8. 8

Attach three white balloons to the foam, placing each snugly against the three red balloons you just placed. If there is room for one more row of balloons along the base, choose either red or white to be the broadest stripe of the candy cane, and place the balloons along the last row.

  9. 9

Attach balloons all the way up to the top of the candy cane in this fashion. Finish the top end of the candy cane by pinning a single balloon the end of the cane with a thumb tack.

Tips and warnings

  • Do not plug the LED lights in while you are attaching balloons because the metal tack can conduct a shock.
  • Do not pierce the led lights with the drawing pins while you are working because this would cause a fire hazard.
