Travertine stone is a limestone that has been deposited by mineral springs. These stones typically range in light colours like tan, light brown cream, off-white and white. Travertine can look similar to marble -- it can also be sealed to be incredibly shiny -- but not nearly as expensive. Travertine is typically used for flooring in homes, specifically the kitchen or bathroom floors. But you can also utilise the travertine stone outdoors to create a very calming outdoor living space.

Instructions

  1. 1

Create steps out the stone. The stones can be made into large rectangular steps that can be used as steps from your back door to patio, or be used stepped walkway.

  2. 2

Lay the travertine down on a large space to create an entire travertine patio. A tranvertine patio will brighten your backyard and create a very spa-like feel.

  3. 3

Lay the stone around your pool as a stone pool deck. Not only will the stone make your pool look amazing, but travertine is non-slip and much stronger than concrete. The stone around your pool will make you feel like you live at a tropical resort.

  4. 4

Arrange small travertine stones around your garden or flower beds instead of brick or concrete. The light colour of the stone will bring a lot of attention to your floral spaces.

  5. 5

Create an outdoor kitchen or fire pit using the travertine stone. The stone can be cut and used for a counter top around your grill or surrounding a fire pit.
