How to Use Netflix Overseas

Updated February 21, 2017

Netflix is a United States based company that offers on-demand video streaming or movies and television shows. Netflix streamed content is only available to Netflix customers using computers that are physically located in the United States. If you are temporarily overseas, it's possible to access Netflix streaming content by using a proxy service. A proxy service allows you to connect to the Internet through a server in a different location. By connecting to a proxy server located in the United States, you can access Netflix streaming content from overseas.

Download and install a proxy server application on your computer. Examples of proxy service applications include Hide My Ass, Proxy Key, and Hotspot Shield (see Resources). Click the "Download" or "Install" button and follow the prompts to create an account and install the proxy service application on your computer.

Open the proxy service application on your computer and log on to your account using the account information you created when you downloaded and installed the application.

Select a server location in the United States. Many proxy service applications offer servers in multiple locations around the world. Use a location in the United States to access Netflix streaming content overseas.

Click the "Internet Explorer" icon in your task bar. Log in to your Netflix account.

Click the instant-play movie or TV show you want to watch and click the "Play" button to view the streaming video online from your computer overseas.
