How to Stop the Backup Exec From Ejecting the Tape

Updated July 20, 2017

If Backup Exec (a corporate backup program) is connected to a robotic tape backup system with its default settings intact, the software will attempt to eject a tape after the tape is full. You can change the settings within Backup Exec to disable the automatic tape ejection.

Click "Start," then "All Programs." Open the "Backup Exec" folder and click on the "Backup Exec" program name.

Click on the "Options" button in the toolbar, then click "Preferences."

Click on the "External media" tab.

Uncheck the "Auto-eject tape drive" option, then click "OK."
