RC aeroplane prop savers are aftermarket kits designed to reduce the likelihood of breaking the propeller or the propeller shaft during a crash or hard landing. The prop saver attaches to the propeller and is then attached to the propeller shaft with rubber bands. When the plane crashes, the propeller flexes with the rubber bands instead of snapping off as it would without the prop saver installed. Prop savers are made out of plastic for low-powered RC planes and metal for higher-powered models.

Remove the propeller from the RC plane. Consult the instruction manual for instructions on the proper technique for your particular model. In general, the propeller may be removed by gripping the propeller shaft with a pair of needle nose pliers behind the threads and twisting the propeller counter-clockwise.
Attach the prop saver to the propeller. Plastic prop savers come with small arms on either side of the inner circle. Each arm has a small bump on one side. The small bumps point away from the propeller. Most propellers have numbers on the front side. Position the pieces so that the bumps on the prop saver face away from the propeller and the numbers on the propeller face away from the prop saver. Adjust the prop saver so that the arms are perpendicular to the propeller blades and snap the prop saver into the propeller opening.
Attach the rubber bands to the propeller. Use the rubber bands that came with the prop saver kit. Place one rubber on one of the arms of the prop saver. Pull the rubber band over the front of the propeller and hook it on the other prop saver arm. The propeller hub may pass through the rubber band opening or you may pull the rubber band around the hub if you choose. Repeat the process starting from the opposite prop saver arm.
Attach the propeller and prop saver to the propeller shaft. Grip the propeller shaft with the needle nose pliers, making sure to avoid the threads. Screw the propeller clockwise until it is firmly in place and screwed on straight.
Remove the propeller from the plane following the previous steps for a plastic prop saver or according to your plane's instruction manual.
Fit the metal prop saver to the propeller hub. The cone-shaped protrusion on one side of the prop saver fits into the propeller hub. The side of the propellers with the letters or numbers faces toward the front.
Attach the propeller to the prop saver with the rubber bands that came with the kit as described in the previous section. Metal prop savers have bolts instead of arms with protrusions, but the process is the same, criss-cross the rubber bands over the front of the propeller hub to secure the propeller in place.
Attach the propeller to the plane using the needle nose pliers and twisting the propeller clockwise until it is snug.
