How to Rewire RGB Components to a VGA Cable

Updated April 17, 2017

High-definition (HD) devices, such as Blu-ray players and certain video game systems, generally connect to television through the use of a component cable. The cable's visual signal is sent through three cables known as RGB cables. If you are trying to connect your HD device to a computer monitor, you can do so by using a special converter to turn your component signal into a VGA cable signal.

Connect one end of your component cable to the component ports on your HD device.

Connect the other end of your component cable to the component ports on your component-to-VGA converter.

Connect one end of your VGA cable to the VGA port on your component-to-VGA converter.

Connect the other end of your VGA cable to the VGA port on your computer monitor.

Turn your computer monitor and HD device on. You will see the signal sent from your device on your monitor.
