Game controllers have not always been in the universally accepted USB interface. Back before USB 2.0 was even a thought, game controllers came with a serial interface. The bulky serial interface eventually was phased out by USB. You can still use those game controllers if you use a converter that converts serial to USB.

  • Game controller
  • Serial-to-USB adaptor

    Unplug the game controller from any port to which it may be connected.

    Insert the serial-to-USB adaptor into one your computer's USB ports.

  3. 3

    Connect the game controller to the adaptor's open serial end.

  4. 4

    Turn your computer on and the serial-to-USB adaptor automatically installs the appropriate drivers from the game controller that is connected to it.

  5. 5

    Restart your computer. The game controller is now accessible from your computer using the adaptor.
