Similar to Windows Media Player, RealPlayer allows users to organise their favourite MP3s and videos, rip and burn CDs and watch movies. The most recent version of RealPlayer also lets users edit their video files by using the "Trim" feature. The feature enables you to capture a specific clip in your video by removing unwanted portions of the original file. After editing your video, you can save it to your hard drive, upload the file online and share it with friends and family members on your favourite sharing or social networking site.

Skill level:

  1. 1

Download and install the latest version of RealPlayer. Open the media program.

  2. 2

Click on the main "Library" tab and select the "Video" option on the left side of the screen. A thumbnail list of your videos will appear in the centre of the screen.

  3. 3

Double-click on the video you want to edit. Your video will open automatically and begin playing. Click on the "Stop" button.

  4. 4

Place your mouse over the video and click on the "Trim" button. The "RealPlayer Trimmer" editor will appear on the screen. You will notice the "Clip Position" slider bar at the bottom of the screen.

  5. 5

Use the "Clip Position" slider to cut portions of your video. You can click and drag the right or left side of the slider bar depending on the areas you would like to cut.

  6. 6

Click on the "Play" button to hear your new clip. Continue clipping your video until you're satisfied. When you're finished editing your video, click on the "Save Trim" button.
