How to make flower pots out of baby clothes

If you have a baby shower to go to and you need a gift idea, you can take the creative approach and make a flower pot with baby clothes. Flowers are a symbol of new life, and a flower pot would be an appropriate and crafty gift to give. This gift is also practical, as you can use all the cloth items that a baby needs to make the flowers. The flower pot can also double as a decoration for the baby shower.

Lay two pairs of baby socks out in front of you one on top of the other and smooth them out with the edges of both lined up. Roll them tightly together, starting from the toes and ending at the open end of the socks. As you roll, make sure the toe is sticking out slightly more than the other end, so that it resembles a flower bud. Secure the bottom end together with a piece of double-sided tape. Fold the corner of the end back so that the bottom is slightly wider than the top. Do this with all of the socks you want to include in the gift.

Fold a onesie or baby T-shirt in half lengthwise and fold the arms in. Roll the onesie or T-shirt same way you did with the socks and secure the bottom together with double-sided tape. Flare the bottom out by folding the corner over. Do this with burp blankets, a hat or baby washcloths.

Measure and cut pieces of green floral wire with wire cutters. Cut them in various lengths, so that your flower pot arrangement looks more natural and the "blooms" are staggered. The lengths also depend on how large the flower pot is. Stick the end of each wire into the bottom of the baby clothes flowers. You can always trim the wires later if you want.

Cut a piece of green floral tape to about 60 cm (2 feet) long. Wrap the floral tape around each baby clothes flower, starting from midway down and stretch it as you go. Wrap tightly and stop when you have gone slightly past the bottom of the flower. Finish by wrapping three times around the green floral wire just below the flower.

Line the stem of a fake flower up with the wire stem and wrap the green floral tape. Make sure the leaves are about 2.5 to 5 cm (1 to 2 inches) down from the flowers. Wrap the floral tape all the way down and make sure to leave the leaves unwrapped. Do this with the stems of each baby clothes flower.

Put some brown florist foam in the bottom of a pink or blue (or unisex colour like yellow) flower pot. Arrange the baby clothes flowers by sticking the ends of the stems into the foam. Fill out the rest of the flower pot with fabric flowers that match the colour scheme of the clothes flowers. Stick the ends of silk leaves to add more greenery.
