The Motorola RAZR cell phone has been popular enough to go through many different model versions. RSD Lite is software to unlock your phone to be used on any GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) carrier. Once this process is complete, you will be able to use your Motorola RAZR in countries around the world without paying global roaming by simply inserting a different carrier's SIM card into your phone. (You can use a pay as you go account or create a new account if you will be in that country often.)

Instructions

  1. 1

Remove the battery from the Motorola RAZR. Press and hold "*" and "#" while inserting the battery. The phone will display the bootloader version on the screen. If the version number is higher than version 08.28, then the phone cannot be unlocked using RSD Lite. Fully charge your battery before continuing.

  2. 2

Download RSD Lite to your computer. (See Resources.) Extract the program onto your computer and install by double-clicking the RSDLite*.msi file from the extracted file.

  3. 3

Download the Motorola drivers to your computer. (See Resources.) Extract the file to your computer and put it in the same directory as RSD Lite for easy access.

  4. 4

Download the new bootloader files for the Motorola RAZR phone. (See Resources.) Extract the files in the same folder as RSD Lite.

  5. 5

Download "Motorola Unlocker" to the computer. (See Resources.) Extract the file and install by double clicking the "*.msi" file and following the on-screen instructions.

  6. 6

Open RSD Lite and connect the Motorola RAZR to the computer using the USB cable. RSD Lite will recognise the phone and display some information about it on the left. On the right side of the screen, you will see the bootloader information, as well as other files.

  7. 7

Click the "..." on the right of the filename box on top of the RSD Lite window. Select the modified bootloader file; it will have an extension of "*.shx." Click "Start" in RSD Lite and wait while your phone is loaded with the new software. Run "Motorola Unlocker" to complete the unlock process for all GSM carriers.
