How to Block UltraSurf With SonicWALL

SonicWALL gives you complete network security, including e-mail and Internet security, backup and recovery, policy controls and secured remote access. UltraSurf is a free software application that uses high-level encryption, which allows you to access censored websites safely and securely. However, you may want to block access to this application when other users are logged on or if it is conflicting with other software.

    Open SonicWALL by clicking one of the application shortcuts.

    Create a "Custom Object" and give it the name "UltraSurf" in the "Firewall/Application Object" tab.

    Type "Custom Object" in the "Application Object" field. Click the "Match Type" option, and select "Exact Match" from the drop-down menu.

    Click the "Input Representation" field, and select "Hexadecimal" from the drop-down menu. Type "140300000101" in the "Content" box.

    Click the "Object Policy/Application Firewall Policy Settings" tab.

    Type a name in the "Policy name" field, and select "Custom Policy" in the "Policy Type" field.

    Select "Any" in the "Address Source" field and "Any" in the "Destination" field. Select "Any" in the "Service Source" field and "Any" in the "Destination" field.

    Select "None" in the "Exclusion Address" field and the object you named from the first section.

    Select "Reset/Drop" in the "Action" field, "All" in the "Users/Group Included" field and "None" in the "Excluded" field.

    Select "Always On" in the "Schedule" field and "Check" in the "Enable logging" field.

    Select "Use Global settings checked" in the "Redundancy Filters" field and "Client Side" in the "Connection Side" field.

    Select "Basic" in the "Direction" field and click the "OK" button to apply the changes.

Tips and warnings

  • Do not forget to enable the "Application Firewall" option.
