The device is designed to support a variety of applications, music and user-created games for Nintendo's console. As new programs are released for the flash card, its kernel (operating system) needs periodic upgrades to support such files. Connect the R4 device's Micro SD card to your computer. Use an SD adaptor if your computer does not possess a built-in slot for such units.
Go to "Windows Explorer" or the "Computer" utility from the Windows "Start" menu. Double-click the Micro SD card present.
Select the following items from the available upgrade package: R4.Dat, R4iMenu and MoonShl2. Move or copy and paste them into the root of the Micro SD card. These files are available with the R4 device upon purchase. However, it is recommended you download the latest kernel upgrade from its official website.
Connect the Micro SD card to the R4 Upgrade Revolution through its built-in slot. Turn on the Nintendo DSi and allow the operating system to automatically load.
Confirm that the upgrade worked successfully. The latest upgrade version is displayed on the portable device's top screen.
