If you're starting to see system errors or evidence that viruses have invaded your Acer TravelMate 2480 laptop computer, it's time to think about restoring your system. Restoring the laptop to a user-created backup will restore your computer with the settings, programs and files that were on your laptop at the time you created the backup. Restoring your Acer TravelMate 2480 to the default factory settings will wipe out all of your personal files and programs and restore only what came pre-installed on the machine. The restore process can be done from the recovery partition on the hard drive.

Turn off your Acer TravelMate 2480 laptop.
Restart the laptop. When the Acer logo appears on the screen during the boot process, press the "Alt" and "F10" keys simultaneously, repeatedly until you are redirected to the Acer eRecovery Management program.
Click the "Restore" button at the bottom of the program window to access the restoration and recovery part of the program.
Click "Restore system to factory default."
Click "Yes" when a dialogue box appears on the screen warning you that the system will be restored to its original factory settings with only the software that came pre-installed on the machine. Click "Start" to restart the laptop and begin the restoration process. When the restoration process is complete, the computer will restart and boot up to the Windows XP set-up screen.
Follow Steps 1 through 3 in Section 1 to access the Acer eRecovery Management program.
Click "Restore system from user's backup." A list of backup points will appear below the list of restore and recovery options.
Select the backup you previously created that you want to restore your Acer TravelMate 2480 to and click "Restore" just below the list of backup options. Click "Yes" when a dialogue box appears notifying you that your laptop will be restored to this backup. Click "Start" to begin the restore process. The laptop will restart and the restore process will begin. When the restore process is finished the laptop will boot up to the restored state.
Tips and warnings
- Restoring your Acer TravelMate 2480 laptop to its original factory settings will erase all of your personal files and programs on the hard drive and you will not be able to recover them. Back up all of your personal files to external media, such as a hard drive, flash drive or writable CDs or DVDs before beginning the recovery process. Also, make sure you have the appropriate installation discs and pass codes to reinstall any programs that did not come pre-installed on the laptop.
