Aprilia specialises in making racing motorcycles designed to be driven fast and function well at high operating temperatures. Racing bikes that run hot very often require regular oil changes to keep their engines lubricated and running smoothly. The RSV series of racing motorcycles is exactly this type of motorcycle. If you know how to remove the right panels and locate the correct parts of the engine's oil system, you can change the oil in an Aprilia RSV motorcycle.

  1. 1

Set an Aprilia RSV motorcycle up on its kickstand.

  2. 2

Remove any of the lower panels on the kickstand side of the motorcycle with a HEX-head socket and socket driver.

  3. 3

Place an oil pan directly beneath the motorcycle's oil tank. The oil tank is the large metal tank with the clear engine oil level tube on its outside.

  4. 4

Unscrew the drain plug on the right side of the bottom of the oil tank with a HEX socket and socket driver. Allow the oil to fully drain from the oil tank.

  5. 5

Replace the plug and tighten it with a HEX socket and socket driver.

  6. 6

Locate the second drain plug. This plug is between the black insulated tube that runs from the oil tank to the engine and the oil filter cap.

  7. 7

Place the oil pan directly beneath the second drain plug.

  8. 8

Unscrew the second drain plug with an Allen wrench and remove it from the motorcycle. Allow all the oil to drain from the engine.

  9. 9

Replace the second drain plug and tighten it with an Allen wrench.

  10. 10

Locate the oil filter cap. This cap is directly above the insulated black hose that runs from the engine to the oil tank. It has two bolts on both its sides that secure it to the engine.

  11. 11

Remove both the bolts securing the oil filter cap in place with a HEX socket and socket driver.

  12. 12

Remove the oil filter cap and oil filter.

  13. 13

Replace the old oil filter with a new one, secure the oil filter cap back in place and secure the two bolts using a HEX socket and socket driver.

  14. 14

Unscrew and remove the oil cap from the top of the oil tank.

  15. 15

Insert a funnel into the opening of the oil tank and fill it with motorcycle engine oil until the level in the clear plastic oil level tube is above the minimum line.

  16. 16

Replace the oil tank cap and screw it in place.

  17. 17

Replace any panels removed for the oil change and secure them in place with a HEX socket and socket driver.
