How to Replace a Rear Bumper Cover on a Volvo V70

Updated July 20, 2017

The rear bumper cover on your Volvo V70 helps protect your vehicle from low speed rear-end collisions. If the rear bumper cover is damaged, you should try to have it replaced as soon as possible. The rear bumper cover is held in place by six screws and two bolts. Once those are removed, the rear bumper cover comes right off. Installing a new bumper cover is simply a matter of placing it onto your V70 and installing the screws and bolts.

Park your Volvo V70 on a flat surface and remove the keys from the ignition. Engage the parking brake.

Remove the three screws from the right side of the rear bumper cover with a Phillips screwdriver. You will need to go under the vehicle and access the screws through the wheel well. Remove the three screws on the left side of the rear bumper cover in the same way.

Remove the two long support bolts from the top of the rear bumper cover. Before removing the bolts, you need to have a stand support for the bumper cover so that it does not fall and potentially injure you. If you do not have a stand, have someone come and hold the bumper cover for you while you remove the bolts.

Remove the rear bumper cover once the bolts are removed. Place the replacement rear bumper cover onto the back of the Volvo V70 and install the two securing bolts.

Reinstall the three screws on each side of the rear bumper cover.
