Sheer Heaven is an innovative transfer paper that can be used for a wide variety of craft projects. You can print any image you want onto the Sheer Heaven paper. With the use of a few simple tools and some rubbing alcohol, the ink can be transferred seamlessly onto a new receiving surface. Papers and fabrics are the best receiving surfaces for Sheer Heaven transfers. Whether you're working to make custom clothing, distinctive greeting cards or artistic prints for your walls, use Sheer Heaven to apply your favourite shots to your work surface.

  1. 1

Print your desired image onto a sheet of Sheer Heaven using an inkjet printer. Make sure that the Sheer Heaven paper is inserted with the correct side facing up. The slightly rough side of the paper is the surface that should be printed on. To make the most of each sheet of Sheer Heaven, you can print several images onto each sheet.

  2. 2

Trim the Sheer Heaven around each image using sharp scissors. If you printed only one image, trimming the paper isn't necessary, but may make application easier. If you do not trim the paper, you may experience a slight film where areas of blank Sheer Heaven are applied to the receiving surface.

  3. 3

Set up a bright work light over your work area. This will help you to see the surface of the Sheer Heaven clearly as you work.

  4. 4

Fill a clean spray bottle with rubbing alcohol. Lightly spray the surface of the Sheer Heaven print with rubbing alcohol. Hold the paper under the work light and examine it for a fine sheen. This will help you identify any areas that the alcohol may have missed. Add an extra spray of alcohol if there is a dry area, but be careful not to overapply. If the alcohol runs, so will the ink.

  5. 5

Turn the Sheer Heaven print over and carefully set the image down on the surface that you wish to transfer it to. Nearly any porous surface will work, including fabric and a variety of papers. The surface must have pores of some type to receive the ink.

  6. 6

Press the Sheer Heaven firmly onto the receiving surface with your burnisher. Pass the burnisher over the back of the paper several times to ensure even application of the image.

  7. 7

Peel back the Sheer Heaven carefully, being careful not to smudge the ink. Let the transferred image dry for several hours.

Tips and warnings

  • The Sheer Heaven will retain a bit of the image after the first transfer. You can spray it with alcohol again and use this "ghost" image in another project, for an interesting effect.
