How to clean cloudy wine glasses

Updated February 21, 2017

Cloudy wine glasses are unattractive, and can be difficult to clean with plain washing-up liquid and water. Hard water minerals such as calcium or detergent film can build up on your glassware and cause a foggy appearance. Common household items can effectively remove the cloudy residue and restore the crystal clear appearance of your wine glasses. Keep the wine glasses clean and dry to prevent future clouding and fogging.

Fill the glasses with ammonia or vinegar, or place them into a sink filled with ammonia or vinegar, and let them sit overnight.

Rinse the glasses with warm water, and wash them with mild washing-up liquid and a sponge or cloth.

Rinse the glasses thoroughly with cool water.

Dry the glasses with a soft cloth.
