The Rolex Submariner watch band (also called the "watch bracelet") has a two-tone finish: The outside links have a matt or "brushed" finish and the centre links have a polished finish. This creates a versatile look that suits many styles of dress. Unfortunately, the centre links of the watch band tend to get scratched easily when the watch is worn regularly. To remove the scratches, you'll need to polish the centre links with an extremely fine-grade polishing cloth.

  1. 1

Open a Cape Cod Metal-Polishing cloth package. The polishing cloth is soaked in a polishing compound and requires no additional chemicals or cleaners.

  2. 2

Cut a two-inch long by 1/2-inch wide rectangular strip from the polishing cloth with scissors.

  3. 3

Wrap the polishing cloth strip around the end of a cotton swab.

  4. 4

Hold the cotton swab like a pencil and make short strokes in the direction of the metal grain on the centre links of the Rolex Submariner watch band.

  5. 5

Continue polishing the centre links for one minute to remove light scratches. Repeat the polishing process two to three times to remove deeper scratches. Change to a new strip of cloth between polishes, cutting out clean strips of cloth as needed.

Tips and warnings

  • Do not polish the brushed-finish outer links.
  • Do not use a circular motion when polishing.
