The ST1300 is designed and produced by Honda. The company first manufactured the motorcycle in 2003 and continues to produce it. The ST1300's design characteristics give it the performance and ability of a full-fledged touring motorcycle, but its aerodynamic, nimble and sporty design give it a sport-bike feel. The ST1300 can be classified as a sport-touring bike. In 2011, the base MSRP for the Honda ST1300 is £10,725.
Sit on the driver's seat of the ST1300, and insert the Honda ST1300 key into the ignition between the two handlebars, below the control panel. Flip the ignition "kill" switch into the "Operate" position. The crimson-red "kill" switch is on the right handlebar.
Ensure the transmission is in the neutral position. The transmission foot lever is at the front of the left foot pad. Neutral gear is between the first and second gears. The control panel will illuminate a green-coloured "N" when neutral is activated. Also, because the ST1300 is fuel-injected, it does not have a choke switch.
Press the electronic starter to start the engine, on the right handlebar beneath the "kill" switch.
Kick up the kickstand with your left foot, and balance the ST1300 motorcycle with both feet resting on the ground. Hold in the clutch -- the metal lever on the left handlebar -- and place the motorcycle in first gear by pushing down on the gear lever with your left foot.
Ease off the clutch with your left hand, and gently twist back the throttle, which is the right hand grip. As you gain speed, take your feet off the ground, and shift by releasing the throttle, pressing down on the clutch, and switching up or down a gear with your left foot. Turn left or right by slightly pushing the handlebars in the direction you want to go. Depress the right foot lever to activate the rear brake; squeeze the right hand lever -- above the throttle -- to activate the front-tire brake.
Notice the control panel. The instrument panel features a tachometer, a speedometer, digital fuel gauge, digital trip odometer, digital temperature gauge, digital clock and digital warning and operation lights. Turn-signal lights appear atop the speedometer, and high-beam notification lights sit on the right side of the instrument cluster. Warning lights, such as temperature and oil-pressure warning, will illuminate on the right side of the instrument panel. Adjust the clock, trip odometer and other instruments with the instrument switches to the left of the instrument cluster.
Operate safety features and accessories on the left handlebar. Switch between high and low beams by flipping the headlight switch. Press the horn button, which has a picture of a trumpet beneath the button. Honda positioned the horn button just beneath the high-beam switch and the turn signal switch. To the right of the horn button is the front fairing adjustment switch; beneath the fairing illustration, press the up arrow to raise the fairing, or the down arrow to lower it.
Adjust the ST1300 equipment. Other accessories on the ST1300 include rear-side saddlebags, which have 35 litres of cargo space. These saddlebags can fit a full-faced helmet, can be detached from the side of the motorcycle and can be locked with the motorcycle key. Anti-lock brakes are optional. To ensure the ABS system is activated, a red "ABS" light will illuminate on the right side of the instrument cluster.
