How to Change the Oil in a KTM 950 SM

Updated July 20, 2017

The KTM 950 Super Motor (sm) is a high-performance enduro motorcycle with a powerful engine capable of racing on and off road. The oil drain plug on this bike is on the bottom of the engine and the oil filter is on the side of the oil pump on the rear of the engine. The engine oil should be changed every 1,500 miles as stated in the owner's manual. The KTM dealership will have everything that you will need.

Park the 950 SM on level ground and start the engine. Allow the KTM's engine to warm for three to five minutes. This will allow the oil to drain faster.

Place the bucket under the engine and then turn off the engine. Connect the ratchet and socket and remove the drain nut from the bottom of the engine.

Drain the oil into the bucket and replace the nut on the bottom of the engine. Remove the oil filter using the oil filter wrench.

Place the new oil filter onto the oil pump and turn it counterclockwise until it is snug. Remove the oil cap from the side of the engine and insert the funnel into the hole.

Pour 3 quarts of KTM 950 engine oil into the engine. Remove the funnel and replace the oil cap. Start the engine and allow it to run for two minutes. Remove the oil cap and check the oil level. Add oil accordingly if needed.
