Biscuits are a versatile and simple addition to any meal, or a snack all by themselves. Homemade biscuits take time and effort; Pillsbury, a product of General Mills, has simplified this process by offering refrigerated and frozen premade biscuits. The refrigerated biscuits come packed in a can that you peel and "pop," while the frozen biscuits typically come in a resealable bag. Pillsbury biscuits come in a variety of sizes, tastes and quantities, and they are very easy to prepare and bake.

    Keep Pillsbury biscuits refrigerated until use; they are perishable. For best quality, do not freeze or microwave unbaked dough, and use it before the expiration date on the bottom of the can.

    Look for a start point on the biscuit label, lift the paper and peel off. Place the tip of a spoon on the bold line on the underlayer and press until the can pops apart.

    Preheat the oven to 232 degrees Celsius and grease a baking tray or round cake pan.

    Place biscuits into the greased pan with the sides touching. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown.

    Keep Pillsbury biscuits frozen until use. For best results use by the expiration date on the bag.

    Preheat the oven to 191 degrees C. Arrange the biscuits on a baking tray or in a cake pan with the sides just touching.

    Bake one to six biscuits for 20 to 24 minutes or until golden brown. Bake seven to 12 biscuits for 22 to 28 minutes, or until golden brown. For high altitude, above 3,500 feet, bake one to six biscuits for 18 to 22 minutes, and seven to 12 biscuits for 22 to 25 minutes.

Tips and warnings

  • Discard any unopened cans of biscuit dough that are left unrefrigerated for more than two hours.
  • Opened refrigerated dough should be covered, refrigerated and used within two hours.
  • Freeze any baked biscuits desired and use within one month after freezing.
  • Always preheat the oven for 10 minutes to prevent uneven baking.
  • Reheat biscuits by preheating the oven to 177 degrees Celsius, wrapping them loosely with foil and baking for six to nine minutes. You can also reheat biscuits in the microwave by placing one biscuit at a time on a microwave safe plate or paper towel and cooking it on 50 per cent power for 15 to 20 seconds.
  • Do not cook frozen biscuits in a toaster oven.
  • Always preheat the oven for even baking.
  • Reheat baked, frozen biscuits in the same manner as the refrigerated ones.
