The Senseo coffee maker, manufactured by Philips, makes single serving cups of coffee. The water tank is responsible for holding five cups of water, prior to the coffee being made. The water tank should be cleaned weekly to prevent mildew from forming in the tank and to keep the coffee tasting its best. The Senseo water tank is not dishwasher safe and should only be washed by hand.

Instructions

  1. 1

    Unplug the Senseo coffee maker.

  2. 2

Pull the water tank outward, away from the Senseo coffee maker. The water tank is the clear tank on the backside of the coffee maker.

  3. 3

Lift up on the top of the water tank to remove the cover that blocks half of the opening to the tank.

  4. 4

Fill the sink with hot water and a squirt of liquid dish soap. Add the water tank and cover with the hot water. Allow it to soak for five minutes.

  5. 5

Clean the inside and outside of the tank thoroughly with a dish towel or sponge.

  6. 6

Rinse the cover and tank under cool running water to remove all soap residue.

  7. 7

Place the water tank and cover on a dish towel to dry. Place the water tank with the opening facing downward, so all water drains from inside the tank. Once dry, place the cover back on the top of the water tank and push the water tank back into the backside of the coffee maker.

Tips and warnings

  • Never use chemicals, such as bleach or ammonia, or abrasive cleaners, such as scrubbing brushes or steel wool, as they can scratch the plastic or make it cloudy.
