Lightning McQueen is one of the main characters from the 2006 Disney-Pixar film "Cars." This talking race car, voiced by actor Owen Wilson, has also become a favourite Halloween costume for young children. You may purchase Lightning McQueen costumes at Halloween stores, but it is a fairly simple costume to create at home. Print out a picture of Lightning McQueen to refer to when making the costume to make the process a lot easier.

Things you need
- Large rectangular cardboard box with flaps
- Razor cutter
- Industrial strength scissors
- Additional large piece of cardboard
- Red poster paint
- Yellow poster paint
- Orange poster paint
- Black poster paint
- White poster paint
- Red and yellow clothing
- Red baseball cap
Cut a large circle in the bottom of your box with a razor cutter. Ensure the box fits comfortably around your child and is not so large as to become cumbersome. Trace the circle cutout three times on a piece (or pieces) of cardboard, and cut them out with industrial strength scissors to create four tires. The size of the circles should be in relation to the cardboard box.
Paint the entire box red. Stencil or freehand yellow flames on each side of the box. Also paint the car number, "95," in block form, starting with red at the bottom and then blending into orange and finally yellow at the top. Refer to your Lightning McQueen picture if necessary.
Cut the side flaps to resemble windows, and paint them grey. Paint eyes with white and black paint on the front flap. Again, refer to your picture of Lightning McQueen if needed. Remove the back flap with the razor cutter, and use it for additional embellishments if desired.
Paint the cardboard circles black with red chrome, and glue them to the sides of the box. Staple rope inside the box on either side of the hole to make suspenders that will keep the costume in place on your child. Dress your child in red and yellow, including a red baseball cap.
