Pancakes are a popular breakfast item enjoyed by many people. Some families serve pancakes for other meals, including dinner. Recipes often make large amounts, so storing and reheating pancakes is required. In fact, it can save time to make pancakes ahead of time, freeze them and reheat when needed. Easily reheat frozen pancakes using the oven or toaster oven. Sometimes pancakes become cold after preparation but you can warm them quickly using the oven, microwave or skillet. After they are hot, eat pancakes with your favourite syrup, fruit or other topping.
Reheating frozen pancakes
Preheat oven or toaster oven to 175 degrees C (350 degrees F).
Place the frozen pancakes on a non-stick, ungreased baking tray. Do not stack pancakes or put them too close together.
Cover the baking tray with aluminium foil.
Place the baking tray in the oven and bake for 5 to 10 minutes.
Use the oven glove to remove the pan from the oven. Make sure the pancakes are fully heated and are not cold in the middle. Serve immediately.
Reheating leftover or cooled pancakes
Follow the steps above to reheat leftover pancakes in the oven, but reduce heat to 120 degrees C (250 degrees F). Bake for 5 to 7 minutes.
Use a skillet to reheat pancakes. Heat skillet to medium-low heat and spray with non-stick cooking spray. Put leftover pancakes in a single layer in the skillet. Allow pancakes to heat through, turning occasionally. Watch carefully to make sure they do not become too brown.
Warm leftover pancakes in the microwave by placing one on a plate and heating it on high for 15 to 20 seconds. If warming a small stack of pancakes, microwave for 40 seconds to 1 minute. Leftover pancakes warmed in the microwave may become tough. Eat immediately.
Baking times vary depending on the oven and the thickness of the pancakes. Carefully watch thin or small pancakes to prevent burning. Keep pancakes warm in the oven for up to 10 minutes with the heat set to 120 degrees C (250 degrees F). Reheat pancakes before applying condiments such as butter and syrup.
Use caution when removing the foil from the pan since it will be hot. Pancakes left in the oven too long may become dry. Do not reheat and eat pancakes that have been in the freezer longer than six weeks, or the refrigerator longer than one day.
