There are an increasing number of independent game developers producing role-playing games (RPGs), and many of them draw upon the same generic character sprites. For avid gamers within this community, the repetition of sprites is bothersome, and they encourage developers to make their own sprites. Two programs can assist with this greatly. Backwater Production's Character Sprite Generator is entirely online, meaning you don't have to download it, while Character Maker XP has hundreds of images to mix and match. You can use these programs to create convincing Naruto game sprites.

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

    Character Sprite Generator

  1. 1

Go to Backwater Production's website and load the Character Sprite Generator.

  2. 2

Select a body. Since most the Naruto characters are young teen boys and girls, selecting between the two middle options will get the best results. In addition, the two middle options have the widest selection of clothing and hair styles.

  3. 3

Choose a head and its corresponding hair style. Essentially, all the heads are the same, but their hair is dramatically different. You can also adjust the saturation, light and hue by using the colour bars on the bottom right.

  4. 4

Set the character's eyes and clothing. Once again, you can adjust the colouration with the bars on the bottom right. For Naruto himself, the "Bright Eyes" set to blue work especially well.

  5. 5

Choose from the "Extras." The full body ninja garb is appropriate for most Naruto characters, especially if you want to make an adult companion for Naruto.

  6. 6

Click "Save" and then select the directory you'd like to save the sprite image to.

    Character Maker XP

  1. 1

Download Character Maker XP and unzip it onto your desktop or game development directory.

  2. 2

Start the program and then remove all clothing, eyes and hair features by selecting the article and clicking the "X" button. By default, Character Maker XP starts with a fully developed character. To get a better sense of what you're designing, remove these articles so that you can focus on your own creation.

  3. 3

Select the eyes and hair. Unlike the Character Sprite Generator, there are hundreds of options to choose from. Take your time scrolling through the choices to find the perfect match for your Naruto character. There are a good set of wide blue eyes and spiky yellow hair for Naruto himself.

  4. 4

Choose the trousers, shirt and boots for your character. Once again, there are hundreds of options, especially with the shirts. Although its not a perfect match, the orange sweater jacket and parachute trousers work well for Naruto himself.

  5. 5

Click the diskette icon to save your file.
