How to Remove Coax Cable Locks

A cable lock is a plastic clip that is snapped onto the end of the coaxial cable. Cable locks have two purposes: to protect the coaxial cable from being removed or dislodged, whether by accident or on purpose by a child or pet; and to prevent the cables from being plugged into outlets that might cause damage. The cable lock keeps the cable firmly in place and can even lock over the head of the coaxial cable. You can remove the cable lock with a simple utility knife.

Instructions

  1. 1

Turn off whatever electronic device that the coaxial cable is connected to. Turn off all power sources in close proximity to ensure safety.

  2. 2

Cut a line on the cable lock from the top to the bottom, using a utility knife, while gripping the bottom of the lock firmly with your other hand. Make sure you don't cut into the coaxial tip or cut the cable itself.

  3. 3

Penetrate the line deeper until you've made a cut that has penetrated all the way through to the lock. Cut the lock all the way down the line. Make the cut slowly to be sure that you don't injure yourself. The cable lock is made of plastic, so it should be fairly easy to cut without a lot of pressure.
