A Christmas pageant is a great way to get kids involved in the holiday and excited about the season. Doves are popular characters for pageants, as they are a key part of "The Twelve Days of Christmas" carol. Making a dove costume for a Christmas pageant can be fast, easy and cheap using craft supplies and common household objects. The most intensive part of making this costume will be the wings.
Cut your two pieces of cardboard into wing shapes. The wings should be proportional to the person who will be wearing the costume. Cut scallops into the outer edges of the cardboard to simulate feathers, while keeping the side that will be worn closest to the body round for comfort. Join the wings together using a thin piece of craft wire.
Paint the cardboard wings white on the front and back. Allow them to dry fully before adding embellishments.
Use craft wire to construct wings, in the alternative. Bend the wire into two separate wing shapes and join them at the back with a thin strip of wire. Stretch white tulle over the wire and, using your glue gun, glue the edges in place.
Embellish the edges of your cardboard or wire wings with feathers, a feather boa or white glitter. Apply hot glue with your glue gun to the edges of the wings, then place the feathers or glitter where you want them.
Glue a strip of white elastic to the back of each wing. Make sure the elastic is long enough to comfortably fit over the wearer's shoulders, while being secure enough to keep the wings in place.
Cut a triangle with a rounded bottom out of your orange card stock. Glue the triangle onto the bill of the white baseball cap.
Embellish the white clothing and cap with leftover feathers and glitter using your hot glue gun.
