No other image has captured the imagination of the digital age like that of the iconic CD... except maybe an animated picture of a spinning CD. With the technological advancement of the Internet there is an increased social desire to spice up standard images with the use of animation. An animated GIF is a way to achieve this illusion, working in much the same way as a flip book. There are three popular websites for animated GIF creation: Gifninja, MakeAGif and GICKR.

Tips and warnings

  • You must use an image of a CD that is both vertically and horizontally even. Use an image with a solid coloured background.
  • To avoid choppy movement at a slower animation speed create many images of the CD for the GIF with only a few degrees of variation between them.
